Brazil: Two individuals arrested for child abandonment

Authorities in Brazil have arrested two individuals for child abandonment in separate incidents.

In Vila Velha, a 41-year-old man was arrested after leaving his children, aged 8 and 12, alone in a residence. The children reported they had been alone since 7:00 PM and lacked a key to exit the home, eventually escaping through a window. The father, who holds judicial custody, reportedly left to purchase alcohol and appeared intoxicated when encountered by the Municipal Guard. The children were temporarily placed in the care of their mother.

In Botucatu, a 44-year-old woman was arrested after leaving her children, aged 6 and 10, under the care of a 79-year-old man with limited mobility. Neighbors alerted authorities after observing the children and the elderly man requesting food from other residents. The elderly individual stated that the woman frequently left them alone. The children and the elderly man were placed under the care of a relative following an assessment by the Guardianship Council.
