Brazil unveils offshore wind methodology; Portugal opens wind park public review

Brazil's Ministry of Mines and Energy, together with the Empresa de Pesquisa Energética (EPE), released a standardized three‑step procedure for selecting offshore wind development areas. The methodology aligns with Law 15.097/2025 and CNPE resolutions, identifying potential zones, defining areas of interest, and prioritising sites based on technical, economic, logistical and socio‑environmental criteria.

In Portugal, the Southwest Wind Park project in Santiago do Cacém, promoted by Hyperion Renewables Sines, entered a public consultation phase until 18 August. The plan calls for 23 turbines delivering 138 MW, includes a 61‑unit lithium‑battery storage system (200 MWh capacity, 50 MW power), and will supply electricity to a new data centre being built by Start Campus in Sines. The project is expected to generate about 386 GWh annually and avoid roughly 41 000 t of CO₂ emissions each year.
