Brazil updates CadÚnico rules and eligibility for 2026
Brazil is implementing updates to the Cadastro Único (CadÚnico) system for 2026 to refine the identification and support of vulnerable populations. These revisions aim to optimize the distribution of government resources for essential programs such as Bolsa Família, the Benefício de Prestação Continuada (BPC), and the Social Electricity Tariff.
A temporary measure has been established from July 22, 2026, through July 2027, which waives mandatory home interviews for single-person households (unipessoal families) during registration updates. This change is intended to reduce administrative barriers and avoid unnecessary travel for individuals living alone. While the home visit may be replaced by in-person updates at a CRAS, electronic services, or simplified in-person attendance, beneficiaries must still maintain updated documentation as requested by local management.
Eligibility criteria for 2026 remain centered on household income. Families may register if they have a monthly income of up to half a minimum wage per person or a total family income of up to three minimum wages.
