Brazil updates electronic service invoice (NFS-e) deadlines

Brazil is implementing changes to the electronic service invoice (NFS-e) standards across different regions. In the Distrito Federal, the National Standard NFS-e will become mandatory on October 1, 2026. The production environment is already available for companies using their own issuance systems via Webservice, allowing for a gradual transition. Until September 30, 2026, both the National Standard and the ABRASF 2.04 pattern can be used simultaneously.

In the city of São Paulo, the mandatory issuance of NFS-e for liberal professionals and autonomous workers has been postponed. Originally scheduled for August 3, 2026, the new deadline set by Normative Instruction SF/SUREM nº 7/2026 is January 1, 2027. This delay provides an additional five months for professionals and accounting offices to prepare for the new requirements regarding Service Tax (ISS) obligations.
