Brazil urban mobility: Digital payments and accessibility tech

Technological advancements are improving urban mobility and accessibility in Brazil. The integration of Pix, an instant payment system, allows users to recharge public transport cards quickly and digitally, reducing the need for physical service points and minimizing delays caused by insufficient balances.

In João Pessoa, Paraíba, research conducted through the IFPB Digital Repository is addressing accessibility challenges for wheelchair users. The study proposes a computational system using recommendation algorithms to suggest routes based on accessibility criteria such as sidewalk width, the presence of ramps, and pedestrian crossings. Preliminary results indicate that the shortest distance is often not the most suitable route for those with reduced mobility, as routes with better physical conditions provide safer and more efficient travel.
