Brazil vehicle registrations grow 17% in August 2026

Brazil's automotive market saw significant growth in August 2026, with total vehicle registrations increasing by 16.87% compared to the same month in 2025. According to Fenabrave, 503,768 units were registered in August. For the first eight months of 2026, cumulative registrations reached 3,723,713 units, marking a 15.3% increase over the previous year and representing one of the best historical performances for this period.

Within the broader market, electrified vehicles are gaining substantial traction. Data from ABVE shows that 64,055 electrified units—including electric, hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and MHEV technologies—were registered in August. These vehicles accounted for 24.35% of all sales in the month. The year-to-date total for electrified vehicles stands at 371,306 units, already surpassing the total recorded for the entire year of 2025.

Specific segments of the electrified market include 27,166 electric vehicles and 20,535 plug-in hybrids registered in August. Fenabrave attributes the overall market strength to the 'Programa Carro Sustentável', increased manufacturer competition, and promotional activities, despite high credit costs due to the Selic rate.
