Mexico and Brazil automotive markets report strong August sales

Automotive markets in Mexico and Brazil showed significant activity in August 2026. In Mexico, light vehicle sales reached a record 1,014,832 units for the January-August period, a 4.7% increase compared to the previous year. While August saw a slight 1% monthly dip, the year-to-date performance remains at an all-time high. Nissan led the Mexican market, though competition from Chinese brands like Geely and MG is increasing.

In Brazil, the automotive sector experienced a robust August, with vehicle sales rising 22.1% compared to August 2025, totaling 275,100 units. This marks the strongest August in 13 years. The market is seeing a major shift toward electrification; electric vehicle registrations grew by 65.2% in August, capturing a significant portion of the market. BYD has emerged as a major player, particularly in the retail segment and electric models.

Additionally, the Brazilian motorcycle market grew by 10.6% year-over-year in August, driven by delivery services and demand for affordable mobility. Mottu has also seen record growth, reaching the third position in motorcycle registrations.
