Brazil vets urge winter check-ups for dogs and cats

Veterinary specialists in Brazil warn that the colder winter months can trigger or worsen health problems in dogs and cats, especially senior animals, those with heart conditions, or chronic respiratory issues. They recommend preventive veterinary check‑ups to detect silent changes early, allowing more effective treatment. Routine laboratory exams can monitor kidney and liver function, identify inflammatory processes, and track the overall health of geriatric pets. "Prevention remains one of the most important tools in veterinary medicine. During winter, when some health problems can intensify, laboratory tests play a crucial role in evaluating the animal’s general condition and supporting early diagnosis, contributing to a better quality of life for patients," said Camila Eckstein, a veterinary diagnostics specialist.
