Brazil vocational education grows amid industrial skill gaps
Brazil is experiencing a significant expansion in vocational education, with enrollments rising 68.4% from 1.89 million in 2021 to 3.19 million in 2025, according to data from the Ministry of Education and Inep. This growth is driven by a diverse student body seeking career changes, new skills, or additional income sources, forcing educators to adapt their teaching methods to focus more on practical application.
However, a study by the National Confederation of Industry (CNI) and the Business Mobilization for Innovation (MEI) warns that increased schooling levels have not kept pace with the demand for qualified professionals. The report highlights a gap between access to education and actual learning levels, which threatens Brazil's industrial competitiveness during digital and green transitions. CNI President Ricardo Alban noted that technological shifts require education to become a lifelong process rather than a single stage of life, as automation and AI require skilled workers to maintain productivity.
