Brazil voters: 50% see risk of foreign election interference
New Datafolha polling data reveals significant trends regarding the 2026 Brazilian elections. Half of the electorate (50%) believes there is a possibility of foreign interference in the upcoming presidential race. Among those who see this risk, 32% consider it a problem, while 18% do not view it as a concern. Perceptions vary by political affiliation: 36% of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva supporters view potential interference as a problem, whereas 31% of Flávio Bolsonaro supporters acknowledge the possibility but do not see it as problematic.
Additionally, the survey indicates a shift in voter engagement. A majority of Brazilians (56%) stated they would participate in the 2026 elections even if voting were not mandatory, marking the highest level of willingness for voluntary voting since the institute began its series in 1989. This willingness is notably higher among men (59%) and older voters (61%) compared to younger demographics (48%).
Other findings highlight political and social trends, including candidate proposals for foreign policy and a growing trend of spontaneous rather than corporate-led volunteerism in the country.
