Brazil weather: Intense rains and extreme temperature shifts

Brazil is experiencing diverse and extreme weather patterns across multiple regions. A South Atlantic Convergence Zone (ZCAS) is driving intense rainfall and thunderstorms across the North, Center-West, and Southeast, placing several states under yellow alerts for potential danger.

In Bahia, heavy rains have already caused landslides, road damage, and flooding in Ilhéus, while storms in the southern part of the state left at least six people displaced and two injured. An orange alert for high rainfall accumulation was issued for southern Bahia, including Porto Seguro.

In the Center-West, Mato Grosso do Sul faces four days of alerts for intense storms and winds up to 60 km/h. Meanwhile, Goiás is preparing for a week of high heat, with temperatures in Goiânia potentially reaching 37°C, followed by increased instability and rain.

In the South, a cold air mass brought record low temperatures and frost to Paraná, though a low-pressure system is expected to bring storms later in the week. In Minas Gerais, the state has established a committee to manage the impacts of El Niño, which is projected to cause extreme heat, drought, and intense storms across all 853 municipalities.
