Brazil weather alerts: Severe storms and heavy rain forecast nationwide

Brazil is facing widespread meteorological instability, with severe weather alerts issued across multiple regions during an election weekend. The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) has issued red alerts for high rainfall accumulation in southeastern Minas Gerais and western Rio de Janeiro.

In the state of São Paulo, the Civil Defense predicts heavy rains, lightning, and wind gusts, particularly near the border with Paraná. Significant instability is also expected in the Southeast region, including the Triângulo Mineiro and parts of Espírito Santo.

In the Center-West, a cold front has placed 153 municipalities in Goiás at risk of storms, hail, and winds up to 70 km/h. The Federal District is also under storm alerts. In the North, warnings for intense rain, wind, and hail cover Acre, Amazonas, Rondônia, and parts of Pará and Roraima.

Southern Brazil faces risks of storms and high winds in Paraná and Santa Catarina, driven by a low-pressure area moving between Argentina and Paraguay. Authorities advise the population to avoid flooded areas, stay away from trees and metal structures during lightning, and exercise caution on roads due to wet conditions.
