Brazil wheat quality declines due to excessive rainfall

Wheat production in Brazil is facing significant challenges as excessive rainfall and high humidity in the southern region compromise crop quality. According to the National Institute of Meteorology (INMET), rainfall in Paraná and Rio Grande do Sul has been between 60% and 135% above normal levels for the 1991-2020 period.

Data from Motomco indicates a sharp decline in milling-quality wheat. Between August 1 and October 13, only 23.2% of wheat measurements met the minimum hectoliter weight of 78 kg/hl required for breadmaking, a significant drop from the 72% recorded during the same period in 2025.

In the broader grain markets, Rosario has seen mixed activity. While wheat and corn prices have faced downward pressure in alignment with trends in Chicago, soybean prices in Rosario have remained relatively stable despite bearish international markets. Additionally, there has been an emergence of interest in sorghum amid fluctuating corn and wheat values.
