Brazil defeats Germany to win International Judo Challenge

The Brazilian mixed‑team judo squad beat Germany 5‑1 to capture the International Judo Challenge title in Blumenau, Santa Catarina, on 30 July 2026. The victory ended a three‑year winless streak against the Germans. Team members Shirlen Nascimento, Daniel Cargnin, Rafael Silva, Rafael Macedo and Leonardo Gonçalves secured the points, with Nascimento delivering an ippon in the under‑57 kg bout and Cargnin adding a yuko and ippon in the under‑73 kg category. Olympic champion Rafaela Silva also won her match, defeating Mirian Butkereit. The win follows Brazil’s quarter‑final loss to Germany at the 2025 World Championships in Budapest and sets the team up for the upcoming World Championships in Baku, starting 4 October. The result was celebrated by the home crowd and highlighted the team’s preparation and unity.
