Brazil Wins Shot Put Gold, Reaches Triple Jump Final at U20 Worlds

At the 2024 World U20 Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon, Brazil secured a historic gold medal when 19‑year‑old Alessandro Borges Soares threw the shot put 20.35 m, a personal best, to win the event. The victory marked Brazil’s fourth world U20 title in the discipline and contributed to the nation’s total of 16 medals at the championships.

In the same competition, Amazonian triple‑jumper Benjamin Silva qualified for the final with a first‑attempt jump of 15.69 m, taking the last spot in the 12‑man final. Fellow Brazilian Nicolas Izidoro also advanced, posting 15.72 m to finish 11th in the qualifiers. Other Brazilian athletes, such as sprinter Michael Cruz, narrowly missed the 100 m final, underscoring a strong overall performance by the Brazilian team at the event.
