Brazil men's volleyball defeats Chile in South American Championship opener

The Brazil men's national volleyball team opened the South American Championship with a 3-0 victory over Chile at the Maracanãzinho in Rio de Janeiro. The match resulted in set scores of 25-23, 25-16, and 25-21. Adriano led the scoring with 13 points, followed by Bryan with 11 and Judson with nine.

This tournament serves as a pre-Olympic qualifier, where the champion earns a direct spot in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. The competition follows a round-robin format involving six teams: Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, and Venezuela. The top three finishers will also secure places in the 2027 FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship.

Following the win, team captain Lucarelli noted an improvement in the team's morale and ability to enjoy themselves on the court. The Brazilian squad, coached by Bernardinho, will next face Bolivia on Wednesday, followed by matches against Colombia, Venezuela, and Argentina to conclude the tournament.
