Brazil Beats Italy in Five-Set VNL Women's Volleyball Thriller
Brazil's women's volleyball team defeated Italy 3‑2 after a decisive tie‑break in the Volleyball Nations League (VNL) at the Nilson Nelson arena in Brasília. The sets ended 25‑15, 25‑22, 22‑25, 26‑24 and 15‑12, giving Brazil a perfect 4‑0 start to the first week and extending its unbeaten run.
The match highlighted Brazil's scorer Ana Cristina, who led with 21 points. The victory also snapped Italy's 39‑match unbeaten streak that had lasted since June 2024. Italy still posted a positive set differential, having beaten the Netherlands and Bulgaria outright and edging Turkey 3‑1 earlier in the week.
Following the game, Italy will travel to Pasig City, Philippines, to face the Czech Republic on June 17, while Brazil returns to Ankara, Turkey, to play France on the same day.
