Brazil youth loan participation rises to 13.3%

According to the Low Interest Loan Index (IJBE), which is based on over 10 million credit simulations, there has been a significant shift in the Brazilian personal loan market between January 2025 and March 2026.

Participation from young adults aged 18 to 25 rose sharply from 1.8% to 13.3%, marking the largest increase among all analyzed age groups. While Brazilians aged 26 to 45 still represent the largest share of loan contracts, the surge in youth participation highlights a changing demographic trend.

During this period, the average amount requested for loans decreased by 26%, suggesting a rise in requests for smaller financial needs. However, specific credit modalities saw increases in average ticket values: loans secured by mobile phones rose by 24%, and unsecured loans increased by 43%.

Data also indicates that consumers are becoming more selective, performing an average of 2.56 simulations before finalizing a personal loan contract.
