Brazilian 2026 School Sports Championships Reach Final Stages

The 2026 Jogos Estudantis Cuiabanos (JECs) futsal tournament moved to the quarter‑final round on 17 April at the Dom Aquino Gymnasium in Cuiabá. Eight schools qualified after tight round‑of‑16 matches, including Escola Estadual Governador José Fragelli’s 1‑0 win over Colégio Ibero‑Americano and Escola Estadual Cívico‑Militar Victorino Monteiro’s 5‑1 victory over Escola Estadual Professora Dione Augusta. Coordinators highlighted the growing balance and technical level across the 35 participating schools, noting no clear favorites and a focus on sportsmanship.

Meanwhile, the Jogos Escolares do Espírito Santo (JEES) concluded its regional qualifiers, setting the stage for state finals in Guarapari from 22 June. The finals will feature basketball, futsal, handball and volleyball for both infant (starting 22 June) and juvenile (starting 29 June) categories. Regional VII in Marechal Floriano and Regional VIII in Vitória each produced seven title‑winning schools, involving over 1 600 student‑athletes across 138 teams. Winners will advance to the national Jogos Escolares Brasileiros and the Jogos da Juventude.

Both events illustrate the expanding footprint of organized school sport in Brazil, offering pathways for young athletes toward national competition.
