Parintins producer adopts diversified farming to boost productivity

In Parintins, producer Rogério Marinho is implementing a diversification strategy through 'productive backyards' to improve productivity and food security. This method involves organized cultivation of various plant species and the raising of small animals on a single property.

Marinho’s current activities include raising chickens, sheep, and bees, alongside starting fish farming. His crops include bananas, passion fruit, acerola, pineapple, and various vegetables. This approach aims to promote self-sufficiency and income generation within family farming in urban and peri-urban areas.

The Municipal Secretariat of Production and Supply (SEMPA) provides technical assistance to Marinho, offering support from agronomists, agricultural technicians, and zootechnicians to ensure proper management of the diverse crops and livestock.
