Brazilian Academy of Letters marks 129‑year milestone and appoints cultural ambassadors
The Brazilian Academy of Letters (ABL) held a gala on 23 July to celebrate its 129th anniversary. The ceremony honored writer Cristóvão Tezza with the Machado de Assis Prize, presented literary awards to Eliana Alves Cruz, Fabrício Oliveira and Caetano Galindo, and featured Montblanc’s sponsorship of new prizes, including the donation of exclusive pens and cash awards.
Separately, Santarém natives Benedito Baruch and Beatrice Amaral were sworn in as ambassadors of the Academia de Letras, Artes e Cultura do Brasil (ALAC) in the United States during a ceremony in Miami. Their mandate is to strengthen Brazilian cultural presence in the U.S., drawing on Baruch’s international real‑estate background and the couple’s ties to entrepreneurship and education.
Both events underscore a coordinated effort to promote Brazil’s literary heritage at home and abroad.
