Brazilian actress Renata Alves Mietto detained by ICE

Renata Alves Mietto, a 26-year-old Brazilian actress, has been detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for over a month. She was apprehended on August 27 at a Los Angeles airport gate while preparing to board a flight to Hawaii.

Mietto has lived in the United States since 2016, having completed high school and earned a degree in performing arts from Utah Valley University. Her mother, Márcia Rilda Alves dos Reis, stated that Mietto lost her legal residency status approximately two years ago following incorrect legal advice. Mietto, who owns a cleaning business in Los Angeles, has not been charged with a crime.

Following her arrest, Mietto was held in Los Angeles and later transferred to Adelanto, California. After a court denied her request to remain free during legal proceedings on September 18, she was transferred to El Paso, Texas. Her family has reported harsh conditions during transport and is currently seeking authorization to visit her at the detention center.
