Brazilian actresses face online harassment after supporting Lula

Brazilian actresses Mell Muzzillo and Paolla Oliveira have reported receiving various forms of online harassment following their public declarations of support for the reelection of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

Mell Muzzillo, a 21-year-old actress, reported receiving racist remarks targeting her Afro-Indigenous identity, religious intolerance regarding her African-matrix beliefs, and sexual harassment. She noted that some followers transitioned from making sexual advances to political insults and personal attacks after she disclosed her political stance.

Paolla Oliveira also used social media to expose offensive comments regarding her appearance, intelligence, and political choices. She highlighted a pattern where individuals who previously sent sexually explicit messages shifted to aggressive political attacks once her vote was made public. Oliveira emphasized that while she is open to debating ideas, personal insults and sexism are not acceptable forms of political disagreement.
