Brazilian actresses urge elderly citizens to vote
Prominent Brazilian actresses Fernanda Montenegro and Marieta Severo are mobilizing elderly citizens to participate in the upcoming elections.
Fernanda Montenegro, aged 96, has expressed her intention to cast her vote despite being legally exempt from the obligation due to her age. Her manager confirmed that the actress views voting as a vital civic right.
Similarly, Marieta Severo released a video message specifically targeting Brazilians over the age of 70. She emphasized that while voting is optional for this demographic, it remains a hard-won right and a crucial way to influence the future for younger generations.
This mobilization aligns with recent campaign efforts to increase turnout among the nearly 17 million Brazilians aged 70 and older. Vice President Geraldo Alckmin has also joined the effort, encouraging older voters to participate in the country's decision-making processes.
