Brazil's aviation, freight tax and bus operators show growth amid logistics shifts

The Brazilian agribusiness sector is expanding its use of aviation, with the fleet of turbo‑prop aircraft used for passenger and cargo transport rising 7.1% to support remote farms in the Midwest, Matopiba and the North. ABAG CEO Flávio Pires said, “A aviação do agronegócio é um dos pilares da produtividade e da competitividade desse setor.”

A study by technology firm Qive found that road freight generated R$ 211 billion in revenues from January 2024 to December 2025, producing R$ 14.2 billion in ICMS tax. The analysis highlighted that retail logistics dominates in volume but has low average freight values, while energy and agribusiness handle higher‑value, longer‑distance shipments. “O varejo é o setor da capilaridade; são muitos fretes pequenos, frequentes e próximos ao consumo,” noted Qive product manager Guilherme Martins.

The National Land Transport Agency (ANTT) reported that 9,678 bus companies were authorized for passenger transport in 2025, but only 7,450 (77%) actually operated, moving just over 101 million passengers, down from the 2023 peak.

In the insurance market, premiums from damage and life policies grew 6.4% year‑to‑date, yet total sector revenues fell 1.7% to R$ 172.9 billion, pressured by declines in pension‑linked products after recent tax changes.
