Brazilian anglers secure new sport fishing records

Two Brazilian anglers have achieved significant sport fishing records recognized by the Brazilian Game Fish Association (BGFA).

In the Araguaia River, 15-year-old Henrique Bittar from Uberaba captured a 1.60-meter piraíba. The feat, which took approximately 35 minutes to complete, sets a new Brazilian record for the category, surpassing a previous mark held by an eight-year-old. Bittar utilized a smaller fish as bait and prepared for the catch through research on river conditions.

Separately, in the waters off Ilhéus, Bahia, 42-year-old Fernando de Jesus Pereira Filho caught a 112-cm xaréu-branco (Caranx hippos). Using light jigging techniques with lightweight equipment, Pereira Filho secured both the Brazilian Absolute Male and Bahia Absolute Male length records. His achievement has earned him a place in the BGFA Hall of Fame.
