Brazilian Army honors Duke of Caxias on Soldier's Day

Brazil celebrates Soldier's Day on August 25, honoring the memory of Luís Alves de Lima e Silva, the Duke of Caxias, the patron of the Brazilian Army. Caxias, known as ‘The Pacifier,’ was a prominent military leader during the Empire who was noted for his strategic prudence and ability to negotiate peace during various historical revolts.

In Cáceres, the 66th Motorized Infantry Battalion is organizing a series of commemorative events to mark the date. The celebrations, led by Lieutenant Colonel Rômulo Attanazio Jacob, integrate military tradition with local religious customs, as August 25 also coincides with the feast of Saint Louis of France, the city's patron saint. The program includes musical performances by the Battalion's band, religious services across various denominations, and a formal military ceremony featuring the presentation of decorations and berets.
