Brazilian Army major shot in Rio de Janeiro

A major of the Brazilian Army was shot in the abdomen after mistakenly entering a street in the Vila Aliança neighborhood, located in the Bangu district of Rio de Janeiro's West Zone.

According to police reports, the officer was returning home from a gym near Bangu Shopping when he encountered a barricade on Rua Doutor Augusto Figueiredo. He was approached by an armed man, identified as a member of a local drug trafficking group, who questioned if he was a police officer. The major reportedly attempted to avoid conflict by claiming he worked as a ride-share driver.

The suspect allegedly summoned several accomplices, with at least seven or eight individuals participating in the confrontation. As the major attempted to flee in his vehicle, gunmen opened fire, striking the car with nine shots. One bullet hit the officer in the abdomen. He was rescued and transported to the Hospital Geral do Rio de Janeiro. The 34th DP (Bangu) is investigating the attempted homicide to identify the suspects.
