Brazilian Army soldiers die in Macapá shooting incident

Two Brazilian Army soldiers died following a shooting incident at the Amapá Border Command and 34th Jungle Infantry Battalion (CFAP/34º BIS) in Macapá. The incident occurred on a Friday night involving four soldiers in a dormitory.

Preliminary reports suggest that while one soldier was handling a pistol, a discharge struck another soldier in the head. The soldier holding the weapon subsequently left the dormitory and was found dead approximately 10 meters away, also with a gunshot wound to the head. Authorities are investigating the hypothesis that the first shot was accidental and that the second soldier subsequently took his own life, though this has not been officially confirmed.

The Brazilian Army has opened a Military Police Inquiry (IPM) to clarify the circumstances of the deaths. Civil authorities, including the Homicide and Person Protection Police Station (DHPP) and the Scientific Police, have also conducted forensic procedures at the site. The Army stated it is providing assistance to the families of the deceased.
