Brazilian art exhibitions explore women's history and identity

The Museu da Inconfidência in Ouro Preto is hosting the exhibition ‘Sala da Vida Privada’ (Private Life Room) at the Galeria Manoel da Costa Ataíde. Running from September 5 to November 8, the showcase features contemporary works by artists Carol Ambrósio, Poliana Toussaint, and Tathyana Santiago. The exhibition aims to provoke reflection on gender, memory, and the historical presence of women by placing modern art in dialogue with colonial-era objects from the museum’s collection.

In São Paulo, the Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil is presenting ‘Marlene Barros: Tecitura do Feminino’, the first solo exhibition for the Maranhão-born artist at the institution. Curated by Betânia Pinheiro, the show includes 15 works—ranging from sculptures to embroidery and crochet—that utilize domestic techniques to explore themes of the female body, memory, and the historical invisibility of women’s labor in the arts.
