Brazilian athletes from Rio das Ostras and Jaraguá claim national titles in Jiu‑Jitsu, swimming and master athletics
Jiu‑Jitsu competitor João Pedro Freitas of Rio das Ostras won three gold medals at the Rio Winter International Open, finishing atop the podium in multiple weight‑class categories. The city’s swimmers — Giovanna Lofrano, Tainá de Carvalho and Valentini Pereira — also represented Rio das Ostras at the Brazilian Open‑Water Championship in Fortaleza, competing under the Fluminense Football Club banner.
In master athletics, Jaraguá native Ivanildo de Souza Pinto captured two gold medals in the discus and javelin throws at the São Paulo State Master Championships, adding a silver in the hammer throw. His javelin performance moved him to the top of the South American master rankings for 2026, while his discus result placed him second on the continent.
All athletes benefited from Brazil’s Bolsa Atleta program, which supports high‑performance competitors across a range of sports.
