Brazilian athletes show strong momentum ahead of Los Angeles 2028

Two years before the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, Brazilian athletes are demonstrating significant progress across multiple disciplines. In track and field, Alison dos Santos set a new world record in the 400m hurdles with a time of 45.80 seconds during the Diamond League in Poland, surpassing the previous mark held by Karsten Warholm.

In table tennis, Hugo Calderano has reached a historic peak, currently ranked ninth in the world. He recently won the Table Tennis World Cup in Macau, becoming the first athlete from the Americas to do so. Additionally, the mixed doubles pairing of Calderano and Bruna Takahashi has reached the second position in the world rankings.

Tennis is also seeing a generational shift with 20-year-old João Fonseca rising through the ATP rankings. Fonseca, currently ranked 26th, recently reached the quarterfinals of Roland Garros, a feat not achieved by a Brazilian since 2004.
