Brazilian authorities advance autism care in Acre and Bahia

The Public Prosecutor's Office of Acre (MPAC) has opened an administrative procedure to monitor the implementation of public policies for adults with autism in Cruzeiro do Sul. The oversight focuses on the construction and technical readiness of the Centro Especializado em Reabilitação (CER) of the Vale do Juruá, with MPAC requesting detailed information from the municipal health department, the state health secretariat and the city hall about the project's timeline, licensing and support measures.

In the state of Bahia, a magistrate in the Ituberá district ruled that a health insurer must provide a five‑year‑old child with autism full access to the therapies prescribed by specialists, including psychological, speech‑language, occupational, psychomotricity and psychopedagogical services. The decision cited constitutional guarantees of health and the rights of the child, ending a prolonged dispute between the family and the insurer and ensuring the child's right to development and inclusion.
