Brazil authorities launch major operations against drug trafficking and betting fraud
Brazilian authorities have launched major operations targeting two distinct criminal networks. In Operation La Máquina, the Federal Police and the Amazonas Public Prosecutor's Office (Gaeco/MPAM) dismantled an interstate drug trafficking organization. The group utilized small aircraft, clandestine airstrips, and shell companies to transport narcotics from the Amazon region. Law enforcement executed 43 warrants, resulting in 13 preventive arrests and the seizure of approximately R$ 7.7 million in assets.
Simultaneously, Operation Arena is investigating a large-scale financial fraud involving the betting platform Pixbet. Investigators identified the use of 549 CPFs belonging to deceased individuals to facilitate unauthorized foreign exchange operations and money laundering. The scheme allegedly involved sending funds to offshore accounts in Curaçao and returning them to Brazil under the guise of legitimate service payments. The Ministry of Finance has suspended Pixbet's operations, and the court has authorized the seizure of assets worth up to R$ 1.1 billion related to this investigation.
