Brazilian authorities release new gender perspective manual for prosecutors

The National Council of the Public Prosecutor's Office (CNMP) has published a new manual titled ‘Atuação Com Perspectiva de Gênero no Ministério Público Brasileiro – 2026’. The document aims to guide members of the Brazilian Public Prosecutor's Office in incorporating a gender perspective into both judicial and extrajudicial actions.

Prosecutors from the Public Prosecutor's Office of Goiás (MPGO) participated in the development of this manual. The initiative follows previous guidelines established by the National Council of Justice (CNJ), which made the ‘Protocol for Judgment with a Gender Perspective’ mandatory for the entire Brazilian Judiciary through Resolution 492/2023.

The protocol instructs judges and legal professionals to recognize how gender inequalities and stereotypes may influence legal conflicts and judicial decisions. In practice, this involves analyzing the context of vulnerability and avoiding moral judgments in place of facts, particularly in areas such as family law and criminal proceedings.
