Brazilian authors gain recognition through Flitabira and Jabuti Prize
Brazilian literature is seeing notable recognition through both festival participation and major award nominations. Writer, poet, and essayist Maria Esther Maciel is scheduled to participate in the sixth edition of Flitabira, an international literary festival in Itabira. Maciel will join the panel ‘A Palavra e o Mundo’ on October 30 to discuss literary creation and the relationship between words and the world.
In another development, writer Monique Malcher has been named a semifinalist for the Prêmio Jabuti, Brazil’s most prestigious literary award. Malcher, originally from Santarém, Pará, is a contender in the category for Brazilian books published abroad for her work ‘Flor de Gume’. The book, which explores the experiences of Amazonian women through 37 short stories, was published by the Mexican publisher Fondo de Cultura Económica.
