Brazilian authors launch new books celebrating regional heritage

Two Brazilian authors are launching new literary works that explore regional identity and heritage.

In Rio de Janeiro, author and screenwriter Angela Chaves will present ‘Histórias de Ferro e Pedra’ on October 8 at Janela Livraria. The book utilizes magical realism to reimagine Rio's urban monuments, such as statues and plazas, as protagonists in seven short stories. The work includes an interactive Google Maps feature to connect the narratives with real urban spaces.

In the Chapada Diamantina region, writer and actress Kátia Letícia will launch the children's book ‘Kalê – A Princesa dos Pés Descalços’ on October 11 at the Quilombo de Barra. Inspired by storytelling sessions with local children, the book focuses on themes of ancestry and belonging within quilombola culture, featuring diverse representations of childhood and community knowledge.
