Brazilian awards honor cultural projects and top students
The São Paulo state government presented the 2026 Governor's Award for the Arts at the Teatro Sérgio Cardoso, recognizing 13 cultural initiatives across the capital, interior and coastal municipalities. Twelve categories received cash prizes of R$35,500 each, totalling more than R$400,000, while the Institutional Culture category was honoured without a monetary award. Winners included the Artípica project from Cravinhos, the Festa na Roça collective, the Santos Film Fest, and the Samba no Asfalto project, among others. Secretary of Culture, Economy and Creative Industries Marília Marton said the awards aim to value São Paulo's artistic production and its contribution to the cultural sector.
In the municipality of São Gonçalo do Amarante, a ceremony at the Teatro Poti Cavalcanti awarded 130 students from 13 schools for outstanding performance in the digital learning initiative "Cultura 10". The program combines weekly challenges, quizzes and digital tools, granting points that translate into prizes such as smartphones, tablets and gift cards. Mayor Jaime Calado highlighted the importance of technology for future careers, while project coordinator Elaine Cristina emphasized the platform’s role in fostering student engagement.
