Brazilian bank workers approve indefinite strike

Bank employees in Brazil have approved an indefinite strike scheduled to begin on Thursday, September 10. The mobilization follows the rejection of proposals regarding the renewal of Collective Labor Agreements (ACTs) during recent assemblies.

In Teresópolis, workers at Caixa Econômica Federal voted overwhelmingly to strike, with 87.88% of participants rejecting the current proposal. In contrast, workers at private banks and Banco do Brasil reportedly approved their respective collective agreements during the same period.

The unions cite several grievances, including the need for more hiring, improved working conditions, better health plans, and the prevention of further branch closures. Protesters noted that the banking sector has seen significant job losses and the closure of thousands of branches across the country, impacting local economies and public service access.
