Brazilian bank workers' unions rally for 2026 salary and benefits campaign
Union leaders of the Banco do Brasil, Caixa Econômica Federal and other financial institutions are conducting a series of delegate elections across dozens of municipalities in Bahia and other states, aiming to complete the voting process by 14 August. The elected delegates will represent bank employees in negotiations with their employers.
At the 8th National Conference of Financial Workers in São Paulo, the sector approved a draft of demands for the 2026 campaign, based on a record‑high participation in a national consultation. Priorities include real wage increases, expanded profit‑sharing, improved health benefits and protections against mass dismissals. The Confederation of Financial Workers (Contraf‑CUT) will submit the agenda to the Federation of Credit Institutions (Fenacrefi) for collective bargaining.
Separately, Caixa’s executive committee rejected a proposal that would raise employee contributions to the Saúde Caixa health plan from 3.5 % to 5.5 % of base salary, arguing it would shift most costs to workers. Meanwhile, Banco do Brasil has not yet presented a concrete salary offer, keeping investors alert to possible impacts on operating expenses.
