Daniel Vorcaro linked to scheme targeting journalist Malu Gaspar and a R$129 million contract with minister’s wife

Daniel Vorcaro, former head of Banco Master, is under investigation in Operation Compliance Zero. Messages obtained by the Federal Police reveal that Vorcaro and publicist Thiago Miranda searched for private data on journalist Malu Gaspar, a columnist for O Globo, with the intent to “silence” her reporting on the bank’s attempted sale to BRB. The pair discussed offering a “million‑real” proposal to hire the journalist and later drafted a contract for a one‑hour daily TV program, but the plan stalled.

In a separate matter, Viviane Barci de Moraes, wife of Supreme Court minister Alexandre de Moraes, sent Vorcaro a draft contract for legal services to Banco Master worth up to R$129 million over three years. The agreement would have paid the firm R$3.6 million per month and covered representation before the Central Bank, the Federal Revenue Service and Congress. Federal tax records show the bank paid about R$80 million before the contract was halted after the bank’s liquidation. Vorcaro has been detained since March 2025, while the contract documents were recovered from his seized phone.
