Brazilian banks face branch closures and eviction orders

The Municipal Consumer Protection Agency (Procon) in Florianópolis ordered the temporary shutdown of a Bradesco branch on Praça XV for 48 hours after more than 400 consumer complaints and 156 official notifications citing unauthorized charges, inadequate information, and the sale of financial products without consent. The agency imposed a daily fine of R$1 million and required the bank to resolve pending complaints and submit a compliance plan.

Separately, a court in Tocantins ordered the Banco do Brasil to vacate its Aliança branch after the bank failed to pay several months of rent, amounting to R$3 000 per month. The judge rejected the bank’s claim that a disputed property auction halted payments and set a 30‑day deadline for eviction, also imposing court costs and attorney fees.
