Brazilian banks face labor disputes over health contributions and restructuring

Unions representing employees of Caixa have warned workers that the bank’s recent charge for contributions to the Saúde Caixa fund may be retroactive, contrary to the collective bargaining agreement that limits such contributions to payments made after the agreement’s effective date. The union’s coordinator, Luiza Hansen, urged affected employees to contest the deductions, avoid authorising the payment through the bank’s portal, and seek further guidance from their union.

Separately, the Comissão de Organização dos Empregados (COE) at Itaú has demanded greater transparency in the bank’s restructuring plan, citing reductions in variable pay, the bank’s unification of client‑segment responsibilities, and the removal of travel incentives for managers. Workers claim the changes could cut variable compensation by up to 50 % and increase performance targets without adequate dialogue. Itaú has so far responded only to questions about salary equalisation, leaving other concerns unaddressed.
