Brazilian Bar Association targets AI companies and demands retraction from Lula

The Brazilian Bar Association (OAB) has authorized legal action against artificial intelligence companies that engage in the illegal practice of law. During a plenary session, OAB President Beto Simonetti stated that while AI can serve as an auxiliary tool, it must not replace legal professionals or infringe upon exclusive professional activities.

Simonetti also demanded a public retraction from President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva regarding comments that the OAB claims trivialize criminal law practice. The organization emphasized that criminal defense is essential for protecting the Constitution.

Regarding the upcoming elections, the OAB declared its intention to remain politically neutral, stating it will not align with either the right or the left. The institution pledged to support the Electoral Justice system and ensure the democratic process adheres to constitutional parameters and fundamental guarantees.
