Brazilian Bill Allows Armed Civil Police on Civil Aircraft

A proposal in Brazil's Chamber of Deputies (Bill 1687/26) would permit civil police officers from the states and the Federal District to travel armed on civilian flights. The measure, presented by Deputy Delegado Caveira (PL‑PA), aims to remove current restrictions that require Federal Police authorization for such travel, arguing that it would improve the efficiency of police operations, escorts, and intelligence missions. Authorization would be granted only when the officer is on duty, carries a weapon due to the role, demonstrates a need for immediate use during the flight, and complies with requirements from the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) and the Federal Police. The bill must still pass the Chamber, the Senate, and receive presidential approval before becoming law.
