Brazilian Black Women Drive Racial Equality Efforts in July das Pretas Campaign

On July 3, the Municipal Secretariat for Women’s Policies in Feira de Santana reaffirmed its commitment to racial equality, with secretary Neinha Bastos noting the importance of confronting racism and quoting, “Esperamos que algum dia não seja mais necessário lembrar aos racistas que o que eles cometem é crime.” The agency highlighted ongoing public policies aimed at promoting equality and combating discrimination.

Starting July 1, the 14th edition of the “Julho das Pretas” (July of the Black Women) launched, presenting the largest political agenda built by Black women in Brazil and Latin America. Organized by the Odara – Institute of Black Women and networks of Black women’s organizations, the month‑long program includes 675 activities in 23 Brazilian states, the Federal District and three additional countries, continuing the momentum of the 2025 Global March of Black Women. The theme “Seguimos em Marcha por Reparação e Bem Viver” (We Continue Marching for Reparations and Good Living) focuses on reparations for historic racial injustices and a vision of a just, collective society.
