Amazonas and Rio de Janeiro keep essential services running on June 29 holiday

The governments of Amazonas and Rio de Janeiro announced that, despite a point‑facultative public holiday on Monday 29 June for Brazil's World Cup match, essential public services will remain open. In Amazonas, police districts and specialized units (including those for crimes against women, children, and vehicle theft) will operate 24 hours, alongside regular military policing and fire‑fighter response. Health facilities such as adult and children’s emergency rooms, SPA units, UPAs, maternity hospitals and the mental‑health centre will stay open, with the Saúde AM Digital app offering 24‑hour remote consultations. Oncology and tropical medicine foundations will maintain scheduled treatments.

In the municipality of Campos, Rio de Janeiro, the Fundação Municipal de Saúde will keep all emergency hospitals (Ferreira Machado, Geral de Guarus, São José) and urgent care units operating without interruption, while administrative offices remain closed. The regional hemocenter will also stay open, and officials urged blood donors to plan accordingly. Both regions said normal administrative operations will resume on Tuesday 30 June.
