Brazilian cancer hospitals expand advanced procedures, from skin‑cancer surgery drive to portal‑vein embolization

The Hospital de Câncer de Pernambuco (HCP) in Recife held a "July Green" campaign on July 4, carrying out about 30 skin‑cancer surgeries for head and neck patients. The rapid‑surgery effort aimed to shorten waiting lists, improve patients' quality of life, and involved multidisciplinary teams from surgery, anesthesia, nursing and support services. HCP also hosted a scientific session and donated prosthetic devices for laryngectomy patients.

In Goiânia, the Hospital de Câncer Araújo Jorge performed its first portal‑vein embolization on July 9, a minimally invasive radiology‑intervention technique that blocks blood flow to liver segments slated for removal. The procedure helps the remaining liver grow, reducing post‑operative liver failure risk, pain and hospital stay, and broadens curative options for primary liver cancers and liver metastases.
