Brazilian candidates prepare for 2026 elections

Several political figures in Brazil are positioning themselves for the 2026 elections. Simone Tebet, a former Minister of Planning, has announced her candidacy for the Federal Senate. Tebet has centered her platform on public security, specifically advocating for increased resources to ensure specialized women's police stations operate 24 hours a day. She noted that violence against women in São Paulo has seen a significant rise, citing data that shows 86 femicides in the state during the first quarter of 2026, a 45% increase from the previous year.

Additionally, Ana Paula Goffi, a city councilor from Pindamonhangaba, has had her candidacy for Federal Deputy for the state of São Paulo approved by the Electoral Court. Running under the União Brasil party, Goffi previously contested the same seat in 2022. She was elected to the Pindamonhangaba City Council in 2024, where she was among the most voted candidates.
