Brazilian candidates propose annual police recruitment to bolster security
Political candidates in Brazil are proposing new measures to strengthen public security through regularized police recruitment.
Colonel Vinícius Almeida (Podemos) is advocating for annual public examinations to ensure a permanent replacement of security forces. He argues that long intervals between recruitment cycles, such as the 12-year gap seen in Amazonas, lead to staffing shortages and prevent eligible young candidates from entering the profession due to age limits.
In Mato Grosso, Wellington Fagundes (PL) has proposed conducting new exams to address a deficit of over 5,000 officers. His platform includes expanding the Special Border Group (Gefron), increasing rural patrols, and establishing a dedicated Secretariat for Women to combat femicide. Fagundes also emphasized the need for partnerships with the Armed Forces to secure border regions and combat organized crime.
